India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and meeting 50% of its energy needs from renewables by 2030 requires scaling up renewable energy (RE) from the 175 GW target in 2022 to 350–500 GW by 2030. This transition presents a significant opportunity for energy storage solutions, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), hydrogen fuel, supercapacitors, compressed air energy storage (CAES), flywheels, and pumped hydro storage (PHS). BESS is central to India’s energy strategy, supporting the goal of 500 GW of variable renewable energy (VRE) by 2030. The India BESS market, valued at USD 7.8 billion in 2024, is expected to reach USD 32 billion by 2030, driven by a 27% CAGR due to increasing RE integration and government policies. India’s battery demand is set to grow 19 times, from 13 GWh in 2024 to 244 GWh by 2035. The electric vehicle battery manufacturing market, estimated at USD 0.21 billion in 2025, is projected to reach USD 0.59 billion by 2030 at a 23.17% CAGR. These developments highlight the critical role of energy storage in supporting India's clean energy and mobility ambitions. Besides the global energy storage market valued at USD 58.9 billion in 2024, is projected to reach USD 204.8 billion by 2033 growing six-fold to more than 2 TWh by 2030. Annual deployments are expected to grow by an average of 21% per year and triple by 2030. It is expected India taking up fourth largest market positions by 2030 after China, US & Europe.
The India Energy Vault Summit highlights "Driving Innovation, resilience, scalability & sustainability in the India Energy Storage Sector “. It focuses on addressing critical challenges such as raw material supplies, regulatory & technology barriers, supply chain vulnerabilities while showcasing advancements in energy storage and manufacturing technologies and fostering industry collaboration to strengthen India’s position in the global energy storage landscape.
